Description: New Mexico Ballet Company was formed in 1972 by Suzanne Johnston and partners and was originally a touring company as a member of the Southwest Regional Ballet Association. The company performs two major productions a year at venues that have included Popejoy Hall, the National Hispanic Cultural Center, the South Broadway Cultural Center, and the KiMo Theatre. The repertoire for this classical ballet company includes both traditional and contemporary works, including an exciting program called 20th Century Composers—21st Century Choreographers. Patricia Dickinson has been the artistic director since 1997. Dickinson studied at the Graham Conservatory in New York and with Madame Valentina Belova and Nikita Talin of Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo. She danced with the Dallas Opera and the Dallas Ballet. The New Mexico Ballet Company is now based at Dickinson’s dance training academy, Dance Theatre Southwest (4200 Wyoming NE, 505-296-9465, www.dtsw.com).
