Description: Fans of Duke’s consistently excellent men’s basketball team go by the name “Cameron Crazies,” and they are the most fearsome, dedicated crowd anywhere. In Durham, players themselves consider the fans a sixth man on the court, good for an extra 10 points. The noise inside tiny Cameron Indoor Stadium is deafening, and the blue-painted fans stand almost in arm’s reach of the opposing team, taunting them with well-researched personal jabs. Coached by Mike Krzyzewski, who also led the U.S. Olympic team, Duke has four national titles. The bad news for fans is tickets are nearly impossible to get. Students themselves camp out for an entire semester to score them, living in a tent city known as Krzyzewskiville. Duke’s football team is a perpetual struggler, but its golf, women’s basketball, and many other teams excel nationally.
