Description: Metropolitan State University provides flexible and affordable education to nontraditional students in the Twin Cities. Convenience is emphasized in offering the chance to earn bachelor’s and graduate degrees.Metro State has served the Twin Cities since 1971. The university’s original objective was to offer a program for working adults. This has remained Metro State’s focus, though the university has broadened its objectives. In 1983 the first graduate program, master of management and administration, was launched. Today Metro State’s enrollment is approximately 8,900 and the school continues to support education of diverse and underserved student populations.Metro State offers more than 60 majors. Most majors are training toward occupations, such as accounting, social work, law enforcement, and nursing, although students can also study liberal arts areas such as English, sociology, ethnic studies, and anthropology. Metro State accounting students frequently distinguish themselves by annually placing in the top 10 percent on the CPA exam. Metro State campuses are conveniently located to facilitate greater academic success. The Dayton’s Bluff neighborhood, just outside downtown St. Paul, is the largest campus. Two additional campuses are in the heart of downtown Minneapolis and in St. Paul’s Midway area. In addition, Metro State offers classes at other colleges and at businesses throughout the Twin Cities, which minimizes the time students spend getting to school and brings classes closer to their homes.
