Description: This is another museum devoted to the unique Maine 2-foot railroad, a diminutive cousin to the railroads across the nation. In their heyday, these rails, 2 feet wide as the name suggests, traversed 200 miles of track in Maine, running dozens of trains, hauling thousands of passengers and tons of freight. The museum here is a nonprofit dedicated to restoring the operation of these trains in the Sheepscot Valley, and it’s done a fine job since opening in a small way in 1989. There’s a small museum on site that tells the story of the trains and actually takes you out for rides on Saturdays and Sundays. The trains run every 45 minutes from Sheepscot station, from Memorial Day to Columbus Day, beginning at 10 a.m. and ending at 4:45 p.m. It’s a neat jaunt through the woodlands along the Sheepscot and a bargain at $6.
