2. Bayou Pierre Alligator Park

City: Natchitoches, LA
Category: Tours & Attractions
Telephone: (877) 354-7001
Address: 380 Old Bayou Pierre Rd.

Description: Just one hour south of Shreveport on I-49, take exit 148 (Powhatten/Allen), head toward Powhatten and follow the signs, turning right onto LA 1. Look for the alligator bus; that will be your cue to turn onto Old Bayou Pierre Road. Finding the park can become a fun adventure in itself. Once in the park, you will have an opportunity to see hundreds of alligators, living in their natural habitat; a few gators have already asked when you are coming! Experience Alligator Island, where you will be surrounded by these primordial creatures. Do not miss one of the feeding times, when chicken carcasses are placed on a zip line over one of the alligator ponds; quite the show! Experience other reptiles and critters of the forest in various areas of the park. Of course, once you have seen the gators, you might wonder how one tastes. Head to Gators Bites and order an alligator kabob or sausage. Of course, more traditional foods, such as local meat pies and corn dogs are also available. And be sure to stop by the gift shop for all things gator. A wonderful day trip both fun and educational.
