Description: The four-time national champion Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets carry on one of the longest college football traditions in the nation at Bobby Dodd Stadium/Grant Field near Downtown Atlanta. Also known as the Ramblin Wreck, from the school’s famous fight song, Tech currently plays in the Atlantic Coast Conference and boasts 15 conference championships since 1916. While the team battles conference foes such as Florida State and Virginia, the biggest game on Tech’s schedule is the season-ending clash with the University of Georgia. The game, chronicled in the book Good Old-Fashioned Hate, usually is played around Thanksgiving, alternating between the schools’ campuses in Atlanta and Athens. Among the noted All-Americas to wear Tech’s gold and white have been Maxie Baughan, Bobby Davis, Paul Duke, Larry Morris, Rock Perdoni, and Ken Swilling. John Heisman, the coach for whom the famous award is named, was Tech’s coach from 1904 to 1919, winning the school’s first national championship in 1917. Under coach William Alexander, Tech won the Rose Bowl in 1928 and was conational champion. Bobby Dodd’s teams won the Orange, Sugar, Cotton, and Gator Bowls and shared a national championship in 1952. Tech shared the national title for the third time in 1990 under coach Bobby Ross. Tickets Many of the football games are sold out. For information on availability and getting tickets, call the Georgia Tech ticket center toll-free, (888) TECH-TIX, or go on the Tech website. Many games are on national or regional television in addition to WGST-AM (640).
