Description: Since 1991 the PATH Foundation has been building a network of greenway trails throughout the city for safe walking, bicycling, and skating. This nonprofit organization relies on support from volunteers, businesses, and government agencies. Construction has been completed on more than 100 miles of greenway trails. The Beltline project mentioned earlier in this section is just one of the PATH projects.PATH trails are designed not only for riding, rolling, and walking enthusiasts to use in their leisure time but also to provide quick and easy walks or bike rides to MARTA stations for commuters. Trails intersect with rail stations at West Lake, Ashby, and Vine City in the west, and East Lake, Decatur, and Avondale in the east. The City of Atlanta, the National Parks Service, the Chattahoochee River Keeper, DeKalb County, Cobb County, and Fulton County are participating members of the PATH team. PATH membership entitles you to a quarterly newsletter, an invitation to all PATH activities, and an opportunity to participate in trail building.
