Description: About 8 miles north of Downtown, the irregularly shaped Chastain is bounded by three main roads: West Wieuca Road, Powers Ferry Road, and Lake Forrest Drive. For more than 40 years, this multipurpose park has provided respite from city life. Chastain has a 3.5-mile jogging trail, a gym, and athletic fields for softball, soccer, football, and baseball. The park also boasts picnic and playground areas plus a swimming pool. Chastain Arts Center and Gallery holds exhibits and classes regularly. The tennis facilities are the site of Atlanta Lawn Tennis Association tournaments, and the public golf course remains a popular draw. The amphitheater seats more than 6,000 patrons. Here Atlantans revel in various entertainments, including symphony concerts, theater productions, and performances by popular musical acts. On most balmy summer evenings, Atlantans pack an elegant picnic dinner and head for Chastain to enjoy an evening under the stars. You’ll find parking lots near the ball fields and the amphitheater. Some street parking is permitted along West Wieuca Road. Or you can leave your car and take the No. 38 Chastain Park bus from the Lindbergh MARTA station.
