Description: The Atlanta Journal-Constitution is the metro area’s only large-circulation daily newspaper. In 2000 Atlanta Newspapers, Inc., owned by Cox Enterprises, ceased publication of the afternoon Atlanta Journal and merged it with the morning Atlanta Constitution. The combined paper has a weekday circulation of 360,000; 560,000 on Sunday, the largest circulation in the Southeast. By 2009, amid global woes for the newspaper industry, daily circulation had dropped to just more than 214,000 and the Atlanta Journal-Constitution fell out of the top 25 newspapers in the country for circulation. The Sunday paper hits the stands on Saturday afternoon; it carries extensive real estate listings and classified ads and includes valuable grocery coupons. Thursdays are devoted to Food; Friday’s Weekend Preview is a handy guide to planning your free time. The same stories, and more, are on the paper’s Web site, www.ajc.com.
