Description: Since 1961 DeKalb Medical Center has provided the community with a variety of diagnostic, treatment, and prevention services. The 627-bed, acute-care medical center has a medical staff of 775 physicians representing more than 40 specialty areas. The medical center’s programs and services include a 24-hour emergency department offering trauma triage and chest pain emergency center services, extensive wellness and health promotion programs, and comprehensive cardiology and critical care services. Its surgery center was the first in Atlanta to be fully equipped with fixed video surgery capabilities. Other specialties include an extensive cancer program approved by the American College of Surgeons, and family-centered maternity services featuring comfortable maternity suites, a Level III neonatal intensive care unit, and specialized perinatology services for high-risk pregnancies. DeKalb Medical Center also offers a full array of rehabilitation and occupational health programs and a variety of behavioral health services. DeKalb Medical Center is part of the Promina Health System, an alliance of hospitals and numerous other primary and urgent care facilities. Among the other hospitals in the Promina system are Gwinnett Medical Center, Piedmont Hospital, and Southern Regional Medical Center.
