City: Washington, DC
Category: Getting Here, Getting Around

Description: BWI is modern, easy to get to, and easy to use, and ably serves both of its namesake markets with all major domestic carriers. The airport boasts a handful of foreign airlines, including Air Canada, Air Jamaica, and British Airways. BWI has taken the lead in offering regional residents the greatest number of choices in low-cost airlines. Southwest, JetBlue, and AirTran are among the “discount” domestic airlines servicing this airport. BWI is very user-friendly; it boasts ample parking, and is served by both the Amtrak and MARC rail lines, which gives the airport added clout with the flying public. Parking lots offer hourly, daily, and long-term options, plus an “express” parking option. Call (410) 859-9230 for parking information. Eight car rental companies (Avis, Alamo, Budget, Dollar, Enterprise, Hertz, National, and Thrifty) are on the premises, and visitors will find plenty of taxis and limousines. While you wait, grab a bite to eat at one of the airport’s fast-food restaurants or bars, or browse one of the specialty shops like the Smithsonian Museum Shop. The airport also has a game room and observation gallery to keep fidgety kids happy. Count on driving for nearly an hour to BWI from downtown Washington or Northern Virginia—and that’s without heavy traffic! The airport is in Anne Arundel County just off the Baltimore-Washington Parkway, but is also easily accessible from I–95. Ample signs posted along the Maryland portion of the Capital Beltway clearly show you which exit to take for BWI.
