Hygiene - Relocation - Boulder, Colorado

City: Boulder, CO
Category: Relocation
Address: 14 miles from Boulder

Description: In the 1880s, farmers battled grasshopper plagues and other woes to settle this fertile area. The town earned its name when people suffering from tuberculosis moved to a local sanitarium called Hygiene House. Fresh air and sunshine revived many, as the elements still do today. Hygiene is about a mile west of Longmont in an area full of towering old cottonwoods, Siberian elms, ancient lilac hedges, and farm homes with horses mowing the grass. It’s at the intersection of North 75th Street and Hygiene Road. A local hangout is Clark’s Food Store, the little shop with a rickety, tilting porch awning that hangs like half-closed eyelashes above the front door. Here’s a town where the neighbors know each other, and if you decide to hang out for a while, you can be sure they’ll talk about you.
