Description: Naropa is an accredited college offering undergraduate and graduate programs in the arts, social sciences, and humanities. The school was founded in 1974 by Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche, and its educational philosophy is rooted in the Buddhist contemplative tradition. Approximately 1,000 degree-seeking students attend Naropa. Students can earn bachelor’s degrees in music, psychology, dance/movement studies, dance therapy, religious studies, writing and literature, environmental studies, early childhood education, and interdisciplinary studies. Master’s degrees are available in psychology, theater, Buddhist studies, fine arts, contemplative education, environmental leadership, and writing and poetics. The institute also offers a performing arts series and many workshops, and annually holds the Naropa Summer Institute, drawing faculty and students from around the world. Many courses and workshops are open to the community at large.
