Description: This popular rite of spring has been rated the “Best Annual Children’s Event” by Daily Camera readers. Throughout Memorial Day weekend, craft booths, music and dance, carnival rides, and food stands entertain the throngs who edge their way through the tightly packed festival area all the way from 6th to 13th Streets and between Canyon Boulevard and Arapahoe Avenue. On Sunday, more than 5,000 yellow rubber duckies bobble from the Ninth Street and Canyon Boulevard bridge to the Peace Garden at 11th Street and Arapahoe Avenue—all in the name of fun and charity. The race benefits the Boulder Parks and Recreation Department, helping it expand its therapeutic program for children and adults with disabilities. It costs $5 to enter a duck, and prizes range from the trivial to major vacations.Other activities, such as the kids’ Fishing Derby, a sports expo, and a huge art and crafts show, help to draw approximately 150,000 people to the Central Park area before the fun ends Monday evening.
