Description: When what today we call the BNP Paribas Open tennis tournament grew too large for the stadium at the Hyatt Grand Champions, Hyatt embarked on a major remodeling, updating rooms, enlarging their meeting space, and creating the remarkable Agua Serena Spa. This is one of the desert’s top spas, in terms of both aesthetics and the variety of services they offer.The 30,000-square-foot facility includes a spacious fitness center with modern equipment and free weights, personal training, and classes in yoga, aerobics, and Pilates. Every resort guest and spa patron gets to enjoy the center, as well as the steam room, sauna, and whirlpool adjoining the private locker rooms. The men’s retreat area features a cold plunge pool, and the women’s area has a private entrance to the realm of the Medical and Skin Spa. There is also an exceptional beauty salon.The retreat, or relaxation, areas are much more than just a place to wait for a massage. Carrying out the decorating theme of rich wood, sleek tile and glass, and smooth stone, these lounges have indoor and outdoor areas with reclining teak chairs, reflecting pools, and aromatic herb gardens filled with the spa’s signature scents of grapefruit and sage. Each of the spa’s treatment rooms has a walled terrace and floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking beautiful garden areas and allowing each guest to have as much fresh air and natural light as desired. Eight of the treatment rooms also have private outdoor showers. There are also outdoor treatment rooms, a couples massage room, and a Vichy shower room. The Desert Sage and Date Sugar Scrub is one of the spa’s signature treatments, using organically grown Medjool dates from the date grove down the road, along with sage, juniper, grapefruit, and date sugar. These edible treats are whipped into shea, cocoa, mango, and kukui nut butters for a super-rich exfoliating and moisturizing treat. Other original treatments include the Stone Facial, using smooth basalt stones, warm mud, and botanicals, and Fit2Golf, which combines a fitness consultation and training session, 18 holes of golf with swing analysis, and a one-hour sports massage. The Medical and Skin Spa is a true medical office with all the luxurious trimmings and atmosphere of the spa next door. Specialties here are many of the most currently popular cosmetic procedures, such as Botox® and Restylane®, which are performed by the spa’s founder and medical director, Dr. Richard M. Foxx. All clients have a personal consultation with the doctor, who also supervises the laser treatments for skin rejuvenation, hair removal, and spider veins. Microdermabrasion and all types of medical peels are on the menu, as well as comprehensive health and lifestyle evaluations, hormone evaluations, and diet and vitamin analyses.
