Description: A private Catholic institution, USD sits on a 180-acre hilltop campus overlooking Mission Bay. The university offers a liberal arts curriculum and is known for its commitment to teaching, values-oriented programs, and community involvement. The new Joan B. Kroc Institute for Peace and Justice hosts international symposia and conferences and promotes peace in the nation and the community.More than 60 undergraduate and graduate degree programs are available to USD’s 7,000 students, including doctoral programs in education and nursing. Description: Founded in 1954, USD School of Law is a member of the Association of American Law Schools and The Order of the Coif, the most distinguished rank of American law schools. The law school offers degrees of juris doctor and master of laws. In addition, joint degree programs are available in conjunction with USD’s graduate schools: a master of business administration, a master of international business, and a master of arts in international relations.The student population is approximately 365, and both full- and part-time programs are offered. The full-time program requires three years for completion; part-time students usually need four years of evening study plus one summer to complete the degree.The Center for Public Interest Law at USD is an academic center for research, learning, and advocacy for the disadvantaged or underrepresented in state administrative proceedings. Likewise, the Children’s Advocacy Institute is a legal advocacy and research center that promotes the health and well-being of California’s children. The Patient Advocacy Center works to ensure the rights of the mentally disabled.
