Im behind Bernie on this one.
I am tired of chasing inflation. For some time now I am all about work less, enjoy life more formula. As long as there is roof over our heads, Im done chasing dollars.

It takes a lot for me to speak out against a reduced work schedule, but ultimately I'm against such proposals. Particularly among the younger generation, I fear that working fewer hours (and at the same pay) will only serve to make them more entitled and also less aware of the challenges and hardships of life, which will impact other decisions they make (and will ultimately make for the rest of us via the political process).

I'm perfectly fine with the 5 day work week. Like most people, I only have to go into the office two days a week, and on those days the commute is easy with my hours 6am-2:30pm. I get home in time to do other things before dinner, even after driving home those two days. You can bet that forced to do 32 hour work week for the same pay employers will make us go back to the office, and I would be worse off with 4-1/2 hours a week more to commute, and costing me $50/week in gas, I would only gain 4 more hours a week at home.

I worked the compressed work schedule for several years, basically working longer hours each day. I thought I loved that schedule because I had Fridays off. That thought changed when I converted to normal work hours 5 days a week. 8-hour shifts were less stressful for me.

Also, I don't believe the younger generation's work ethic is sufficient to support 4-day work week. I believe task completion timeline would be pushed to the following week. Ultimately this would lead to a logjam of tasks to complete, and they would be stressed out again. Then we would start getting proposals for 3-day work weeks.

What will you be chasing? instead? Do you work outside or inside?

I had my crews on 10 hr days, 4 days a week with alternating start days... therefore each crew got a 2 day weekend followed by a 4 day weekend.

What people really want is more flexibility, and to not have to sit at a desk from 8 to 5 because "that's how we used to do it." Some jobs require coverage, but if people can easily work 4 9hour days and get their work done, and allow for work/life balance, how does that make them entitled?

The thread title is misleading. He is not proposing a 4-day work week as in 40 hrs/4 days. Bernie wants a 32-hour work week with no reduction in pay or benefits. That is mighty generous of him.

Does Bernie understand that this will just add to our inflation problems? His idea will kill manufacturing in the U.S., construction costs will increase significantly, and service industry people already working under 32 hrs a week due to Obamacare rules will have their hours cut to conform to new rules.

Of course, this has nothing to do with his term expiring and needing to get re-elected in the fall. He is pulling a Biden trying to reel in dull people who think it is in the realm of possibility.

Your parents paid people for 40 hours a week but only required them to work 32?

I'm pretty sure that Henry Ford did as well, many, many years ago.
