I have a son who is on the autism spectrum and has an IEP who will be entering middle school next year. Which middle schools in the area are best for children with special needs? I have heard that Redwood and Colina are the schools that everyone wants to get into, but are they also good with special ed services?

Thanks!

I would honestly call the schools themselves. Quickest way to find out if they offer what your child(ren) need.

I can't speak for the school now, but I went to Redwood in the early 80's. Hadn't thought about it in a long while. Best of luck with your search for the right school.

Just want to throw in my 2 cents. I believe that Redwood is the school that most of the Autistic children attend. They have a great program there for them. My daughter works in Special Ed and most of her past students have gone to Redwood.

Both my kids were typical children and also attended Redwood. It was a great middle school for them, too!

Starting in January many schools will have 'tours' for prospective families. I suggest that you schedule a tour and ask if you can also speak to the principal about what they offer for special needs students.

Each school will try to sell you on what they offer. I think you need to visit the schools, and get a feel for the campus, and see where you think your son would fit best.

I'd suggest reaching out to the school district. Their website is Conejo Valley Unified School District > CVUSD Home They should be able to answer your questions there.
