Hi,

I am single now. Does anybody know where can I go out as a woman without being looked at in a bad way? Is there anything in the Ventura or Oxnard area? Don't want to look further away because the public transportation is not so great.

All my friends are married and/or have kids. I don't have a fun friend to get drunk with. I am okay during the week, but don't always want to sit alone at home on a Friday or Saturday evening. I am 36, barhopping time is not over yet. Or is it?

Many of the "club" venues in Ventura cater to a younger crowd--usually wine bars are a bit more mellow and attract an older crowd, as well as pubs. Just be careful, especially if you plan on drinking heavily, unless you're looking to "hook up", as the kids say nowadays...

Umm, depends on what you are into..I'm in your age range and I'm divorced. I'm into a lot of things..there is salsa dancing at Capistrano's on Sunday nights (sometimes I am there although the last night for Capistrano's is going to be December 30th). Sometimes you can find me at Sugar Beets on Thursday nights for the Throwback Thursdays stuff. I just started doing those down south southern line dances at Cafe on A street during the week and I go by myself. I'm not a drinker since I am often kicking it by myself so I need to be sober to drive! I've been to Bombay's many times but I feel like an old lady...lol!!

A woman drinking heavily alone may not be safe. Finding a new partner in crime might be a good idea...

Most people who go to meetup stuff already go there with friends. Has not really done anything for me to go to any events. Partner in crime to go out with sounds great - you know anybody?

Ventura/Oxnard is an outdoor area. If you like local hikes, bicycling, things like that, maybe you can join in for some group hikes/rides, etc. In these circles, you'll find people who are less likely to enjoy spending their time drinking, clubbing, partying, and who would rather be outside doing stuff. My experience is that these are positive, light-hearted and friendly people.

I've never done it, but, as an example, there used to be a group that met in downtown Ventura one evening a week for a night hike to Grant Park. I'm pretty sure they kept a Meetup.com page about it. You might check. And if you like activities like that, you might check for Sierra Club hikes. If transportation is an issue, I'm sure you'll be able to carpool with someone. Hikers often offer to drive two or three people rather than everyone driving alone. Also check with the local Nature Conservancy office in Ventura. They host interpreted tours now and again of Ormond Beach in Oxnard and the Santa Clara River in the Santa Paula area. There are also some casual bicycling groups in the area that do low-key rides as a group. If you're interested in stuff like this, I predict you will make friends in these circles.

On the other hand, you could post something on Craigslist if you prefer to meet just one-on-one. For instance, walking partner, writing partner, movie partner, whatever. But you may meet some one to do stuff with by first getting together with small groups of people where you can strike individual friendships. Just a thought.

Anyway, if I can be so bold, finding someone to just sit and drink with does not sound like an activity with much promise. Might be ok for a while, but then what....
