A little background is required for this.
About two years ago I was laid off from Company A. The federal extension was just about to start when I got a new job at Company B, but it didn't work out and I was let go a few months later.
I filed a new unemployment claim for company B.
When that ran out, EDD re-enacted my federal claim for Company A stating that the oldest federal claim on record needed to run out before the Company B federal claim could be submitted.

Well, now the Tier III federal extension has run out on the Company A claim.

So the million dollar question is, will EDD now automatically submit my Company B federal claim?

Do I need to go to the EDD office and call the hotline to make sure this happens?

Is there a simpler way of explaining this if I talk to someone?

EDD should automatically transfer you to EUC from the current claim - if that claim is eligible - when the earlier claim benefits are exhausted. You shouldn't need to do anything.

If no correspondence is forthcoming from EDD in the next few weeks, you will need to call, or go to a one-stop and use their phone banks.i

Normally, that isn't necessary - but CA's computers are in a mess so the transition may not occur the way it had in the past.

Again, not every claim is eligible for EUC. But, if your second claim is, then, yes, CA should pay from that to the end of the year automatically.

In CA, to be eligible for EUC, base-year earnings in that claim must exceed either

(1) 40x your weekly benefit;

or

2) 1.5x your high quarter wages.

Notice of UI Award will provide this base-year earnings information.
