Anchor Men and Women Reporting the News -- What's Wrong With This Picture?
I am watching a TV news program where three anchors are seated on a couch in an indoor studio broadcasting the news. There are two men and one woman. The woman anchor is sitting between the two men.
I am observing the way each one is dressed. The men are fully dressed from the neck all the way down to their shoes and socks.
Their clothing consists of underwear (I am assuming), then a shirt high around the neck, possibly with a button-down collar, necktie that reaches from the collar to the waist, belted trousers, suit jacket which fully buttoned, co-ordinated socks, and oxford-type shoes, snugly tied.
Only outdoors could they put on more clothing. Hands and face are the only parts of their body showing.
This is entirely different from the bareness of the female broadcaster sitting between them. On this particular day, she is wearing a sleeveless dress, so low cut from the neck down that it leaves no imagination to know what she is showing.
As to the length of the dress, it does not even approach nearness to her knees. Probably she is wearing sheer panty-hose, hard to tell, but other than that her legs are uncovered from ankle to the hem of that very short dress.
Her high heels are the type that barely cover her foot.
If I were a man, I would be unbearably hot wearing all those clothes under studio lighting and television cameras, but apparently that is their only acceptable uniform.
As a woman I would be unbearably uncomfortable with so much of me exposed. I would be wishing I could dress more modestly. I might even feel a bit chilly. Is their dress also the only acceptable uniform?
Is she situated between the two men in order to keep warm, or to keep them warmer?
Who decides what news broadcasters will wear or must wear? I honestly don't believe the anchors have much to say about it.
If the women didn't dress that way, would they lose their jobs?
I'm hoping someday anchor men and women will be a thing of the past. People will simply read the news for themselves, without the commercials, and worthless entertainment news and fill in crap.
The men dress conservatively in suits to present the image of a professional you would trust. Perhaps they view the woman as the fluff if she is dressed like a high end hooker. Just take a look at the TV shows, movies and magazines and how women dress. And remember it's all about ratings and how much they can charge for their air time. In the markets that I've watched I haven't seen one attractive female anchor on prime time. Sex sells, always has, probably always will. It's almost laughable, until you hear how much money they are getting.

Of course they would. They get the young, Barbie-doll looking ones and put them on the news as eye candy. Look at that one on HLN (Headline News). I think her name is Robin Meade? They actually made promos implying she's hot, etc so watch her in the morning. They did the same thing with another female "broadcaster" who left one cable network to another and actually had a promo (again implying her hotness) and you could hear (very low) in the background the sound of a zipper. Gee, wonder what THAT was supposed to mean????
Watch the OWN documentary Miss Representation that discusses exactly this topic. OWN DOCUMENTARIES - OWN TV
Yes I do think it's required for them to dress like that to keep their job. We wonder why young girls in High School dress like that when all we need do is look at the TV and look at how most women in office jobs dress, some example, huh. I wouldn't be surprised to find it bothers a lot of Men who are in the same job title and salary.

I am really glad you brought this up. Did you post this from another site, the typing looks very small. Anyway, I have written Fox complaining about this very thing. The women wear clothing that looks like she's ready for a cocktail party, way too tight, too short, and too low cut in front. Plus what are they doing to their hair - it looks like a wig or starched stiff. Natural is in, bouffant went out a long time ago. They did the same thing to Bachmann and Palin's hair, it started looking fake and ugly. Whatever happened to business attire for women? I like classy and modest, like Dana Perino.

You don't watch Fox, many of the women are beautiful. Monica Crowley comes to mind, she also knows how to dress appropriately. Megyn Kelly not so much.

Monica Crowley is "Dr." Monica Crowley. She has a brain to sell.
The FOX show "The Five" is required viewing for me. They always show the hot ones on the end and make a habit of pulling back the camera to get a shot at their legs!!! Dana Perino never takes the "body seat".

I'm mad at them for ignoring Ron Paul, but I still watch it. I even like Beckel, Juan is just irritating. Yes, Kimberly acts like a school girl, but she is very bright. For those that haven't caught this show, here's a link. The Five - FoxNews.com
I don't watch news on American TV any more. The presenters are beyond unprofessional. If they're not dressed like porno-Barbie on steroids, they spend half the time chatting about what they did at the weekend. I DON'T CARE! At least in Europe they sit behind a desk and read the news; occasionally they have on a guest to discuss something. They're not there to show off their latest shopping accomplishment.
