What a joke it has been.
With low interest rates and low inventory, people in the CNY are going goofy with these houses on the market.
Over priced property everywhere, selling so fast.
House on the market for a day.
In CNY.
I just don't get it.
My housing search is offically over.
I will wait about 2-3 years from now, and stock pile my cash, and buy when everyone is broke and the housing market in CNY goes down about 30-40 percent in my opinion.
Because I just don't see how the CNY economy is ever going to be a great place to work and make money in the long run.
I guess that saying is true though, that "a sucker is born every minute", as these current housing prices are not justified for a dead economic area like CNY, and an area with terrible weather.
Even though, I do love this area and see the value with the: 1. beautiful nature, 2. no traffic, 3. low crime.
Rant over.
Feedback on this housing market would be appreciated.

What are you referring to? Where have you been "looking"? What are you "looking" for? What happened in terms of your "Sedgwick vs. Strathmore" search? Did you look into similar neighborhoods in the city or area(i.e.-Scottholm, Dewittshire, etc.)?

Seems to be quite random...

What is considered to be "insane" to you? Where are these homes on the market for a day? This is considering that the median home sales price in Onondaga County is something like $135,000 or so. Is this one of these posts to spur on a list of homes for sale?

even in bad areas, house are going for 100k.
the taxes in NY are way to high to justify such insane prices.

Sedgwick is far better than Strathmore !

Anyway, thanks for your replies. I am very frustrated with the housing prices here, and it seems like the agents always save the better value houses for themselves and their families or friends or rich clients.

Its a rigged game.

Most people should not buy real estate, unless there is a ton of panic and the economy stinks, yet they have a lot of cash to buy it and have the leverage to offer much less.

That is how the rich get rich, at the end of the day.

Not true at all and I’m starting to think that this is just to bring activity to the forum. You can get homes in bad areas of the city dirt cheap and if the houses in a part of the city go for that price, it is likely at least a solid area.

As for the Sedgwick/Strathmore thing, both are generally very nice. I like how Strathmore has Upper Onondaga Park in the neighborhood, with more space behind Roberts Elementary and Corcoran High. Sedgwick does have its own Tennis Club and Salem-Hyde Elementary and Lincoln Middle have green space within that neighborhood. Schiller Park is near Sedgwick as well.

Both Upper Onondaga and Schiller have nice views of Downtown, swimming pools, basketball courts, areas where people go for walks/runs; with Schiller having some pick up Soccer games where a lot of the Northside immigrant kids play.

Strathmore is very close to the Bellevue Country Club golf course.

Sedgwick does allow you to walk to Eastwood, Riley’s(restaurant)/some nearby stores/shops and take the bus Downtown, to the James Street Wegmans, etc. Strathmore is near Western Lights Plaza, but it is likely that you would drive due to the hill going down Velasko Road.

Strathmore has some iffy peripheral areas, with Sedgwick being less so. With that said, the vast majority of both are very nice and historic.

If kids from Strathmore don’t go to Corcoran(likely for its International Baccalaureate program) or kids from Sedgwick don’t go to Henninger for public high school(or either don’t go to magnet ITC or charter SAS), the Strathmore kids are likely to go to Bishop Ludden or maybe say Faith Heritage(a Christian school in the Valley neighborhood) or even CBA or MPH, among others. Sedgwick kids are likely to go to Bishop Grimes, CBA or maybe even MPH or Living Word Academy(Christian Church affiliated school known for its Volleyball program).

Just to add, if kids in Scottholm don’t go with Nottingham, the public HS option, besides ITC or SAS; private school options for HS are usually Christian Brothers Academy(a co-ed Lasallian school literally right behind Nottingham/near Temple Adath Yeshurun), Manlius Pebble Hill(MPH) or Bishop Grimes.
