I'd like to get some advice from the locals there about Which the safest areas aver there that are family friendly, affordable (were initially looking for a 2br apt/house within the $600-$750 range if possible), and have good schools. I'm open to either private houses ( 1st preference) or apt complexes.

Hello senfly,
You won't get a NICE single family house in a GOOD, safe neighborhood for the $600-$750 rent price range. That type of single family home starts at $1000. If you definitely want to live IN Syracuse city, then I suggest that you search in the "Eastwood" (intersection of James St/Midler Ave) neighborhood OR in the "Woodlawn-Court St/Grant Blvd." neighborhood.
Five people in a 2 bedroom place. Not sure about that. It sounds like a 3 bedroom place is a better fit and Landlords would be more willing to rent you that type place for 5 people.

The following apartment complex (Pinecrest Manor) is probably the nicest place of the ones listed below. ALL utilities, everything included in the rent, but they usually have a waiting list of people who want to get an apartment there. Apartments are quite soundproof.

This SYRACUSE apt. complex (Nob Hill) is at the edge of the city in a pleasant semi-countryside location.

This Townhome Complex - Saddle Club - is most likely to have a rental place for you as QUICKLY as you will need one. In the past, not necessarily at this complex, but around the general area there was some drug problems which may no longer exist.
