It seems like a fairly inexpensive place to live. Is there public transportation from the island to the city? What are your opinions on living there?

There is a 24 hour bus from there to downtown. I have absolutely no concept of what it would be like to live there, though.

It's like living on a windy island in the middle of the bay.

My sister has lived on TI for more than 2 years and is happy, for the most part. The bus runs all the time to the city, but it is MUNI (SF city bus)so I'm not sure how you'd get off the island to the East if you don't have a car. Another drawback, if you do have a car, is the traffic getting on the bridge. You can be sitting at the stop sign for several minutes waiting for a break in traffic, and once you decide to go, you better MOVE. It's a bit like, accelerate or die.

There have been a couple of violent crimes in the time my sister's been there. I know one of them was a domestic thing, not random, I'm not sure about the other incident. There is a police substation out there so if you need them, they are there really fast.

It isn't a place I would roam around late at night. There are a lot of bored teenagers with nothing to do wandering around in packs, which can be intimidating, but I've never heard of them giving anyone any trouble - although, my sister did see some of the island kids first distract and then steal a guys iPod from his backpack while riding MUNI.

It does get windy! You can hear the fog horn at night and the seagulls in the morning. The view is, of course, fantastic and there is a walking trail that goes all the way around the island. It's a nice enough place that is by no means perfect.

Sounds good to me, I'll check it out when I get there. I just haven't seen any rentals listed anywhereand that's why I didn't know anyone lived on Treasure Island, I thought it was all nature reserve and no homes...
