In Post #234, RiverBird, a professional editor, explained why she chose to use the word "literal" in the thread's title. For those who are unaware, RiverBird was a respected poster who died a few years ago.
Thank you. I had the pleasure of meeting RiverBird "for coffee." We ended up talking for hours. She was great. Really smart, talented, we had both grown up in the beautiful Connecticut River Valley of MA and that gave us even more to talk about. I was crushed when she passed away. Her sense of irony was well honed. She knew what she was saying when she wrote, "literal."
I save money by buying minutes for my phone from US Mobile. They use T-Mobile's network but you go online and pay a few $$ for talk or text or data. I usually don't go over $10/month but I can top any part of it up if need to by adding a couple of dollars. I also have a cheap landline, mostly for those calls where they put you on HOLD endlessly.
We drive an old reliable car that's good enough. I was never much into cars anyway, not impressed. A Subaru is what is needed in this snowy, hilly climate and we got one cheap. I shop at thrift stores in normal times and I also get deals on ebay. But really, at our age there isn't much we need. It's more a matter of replacing things that get worn out.

I ended a relationship with a young lady that was expensive.......LOL
Not to pry but how could it be expensive unless you had purchased property or other things where one had to buy out the other. Most of the time relationships end and each goes their separate way.

Not speculating this is the case, but there are many types of relationships we can have with other individuals, and in some of these relationships it involves paying an individual or extending them expensive gifts to have a certain type of relationship with you.
jasper, you really need to start watching the Real Housewives to keep informed about these things.

I miss RiverBird’s posts. I remember when she was contemplating moving and looking into different areas. I was so stunned when she died as I don’t recall her saying she was ill.
I agree with just replacing things at this point. DH and I were ordering some casual clothing online and we ended up getting the same styles that we already have. We know they are comfortable and fit so why change? If I really like something I actually buy 2-3 of the same piece on sale, maybe in different colors, to keep in advance as often the quality diminishes from year to year.
Our kids will not want the “stuff” we have now so we surely aren’t adding possessions that are unnecessary. We have too much already.
