I have also taken on numerous volunteer positions. For the first 4 years I volunteered for the humane society and then a small private rescue. 3 years ago I joined the condo board but I am not running again because it’s becoming very stressful and 3 years is enough. I am on a city committee that meets monthly and involves going to events they sponsor.

I have also helped friends in many ways. I have taken friends to appointments, helped with garage sales, cleaning out their houses, downsizing and moving. Being retired means you have time to help others and participate in causes that you care about.

It’s also a time to expand relationships and do things that you have always wanted to which for me meant finishing my travel bucket list which I did in April. I will still travel but have completed my must see places. I don’t have a lot of hobbies but some people do and that keeps them busy.

I don't believe in schedules, in fact I hate them. If I'm traveling, then I'm locked into a few things, like airplane schedules. Unfortunately, I'm stuck with a somewhat schedule due to various medical appointments. I'm a night owl by nature & constant insomnia has contributed to that. I'm less active in winter than summer, but I absolutely love the summers where I live, so I do more then.

I swore I would never be woke by an alarm clock again & I'm sticking to it!

I still get up early, I can't help it after 5-6 hours my body will no longer allow me to go back to sleep. One of the advantage of aging, at least for me, is you don't require as much sleep. So I lounge around all morning sipping coffee on the laptop with the TV in the background. I retired a year before the pandemic, drove an Uber that first year starting very early. But the lock down showed me that this type of morning is very relaxing and I will do it for the rest of my life.

Now I work part time at a golf course, but it's mostly seasonal and I don't work a lot this time of year. So it's more dog parks, lunches out and afternoon naps. I look forward to warmer weather so I can work more and get outside to bike ride, play golf etc. more.

Ill be 50 in a few years and plan on buying a farm as its always been a dream of mine. I will continue to work my current Govt job until the earliest possible time I am able to retire and once that happens will work the farm until I cant physically do it anymore. It will be more of a gentleman's farm and wont have any set schedules. I dont like a lot of sleep and I like to stay busy, so it will be perfect.

As always, I love how those not yet retired chime in with what they WILL do WHEN they retire, lol. Don't be so sure, young whippersnappers! I had dreams, too...

Thanks for the depressing post, lol. There is really nothing preventing me from living my dream other than agreeing on what state we are going to move to. If you cant do what you enjoy later in life, theres not a whole lot of motivation to keep going, is there?

What happened to those dreams? Did you get sick? Or were your dreams unrealistic? Or were just afraid to take the leap?

Nothing I've read here are outlandish on their scheduled plans.

Future sickness is a dowser on these plans for sure. Nothing we can do about that but just to try our best to be healthy and hope for the best. But when the sickness days come, sure, we would adjust our schedules.

The thing is a way to be healthy is by being active. The more activity we have that is safe (not those extreme activities like rock climbing and race car driving), the more fit we become physically and mentally.

Personally, I like to go out of the house (or condo unit) as this forces me to groom myself as people will see me. But I also want to project me as a 92 year old and what my schedule would be like. It would not be a drastic change which is why I bought into a resort where most stuff I like are already there.

When I'm 92 (God-willing):

5am-6am - Fish/Meditation
6am-7am - Breakfast/News
7am--8am - Gym/Sauna/Pool
8am-10am - Beach
10am-12pm - Walk/Grocery/Lunch
12pm-5pm - Sleep
5pm-6pm - Billiards/Darts
6pm-2am - TV time/Dinner/TV time
2am-5am - Sleep

All activities planned are within 600 steps, very light, perfect for an old person. No driving.
