Hi,
Can anyone suggest some good closet system companies or a reputable handyman who can build a closet system? I am trying to get my master closet done and would greatly appreciate any recommendations.

Thanks

For Father's Day last year my wife gifted me a custom designed closet system from The Container Store. It's the second such system we've installed in our house and it has worked out great both times. It cost a bit more than doing it ourselves but they handled all of the design work and allowed us to maximize on our use of the spaces. It also cost much less than California Closets quoted us.

Years ago, we used Closets by Design (after looking at a few companies). We love our closet.
Our designer spent a few hours in our closet- working up 3 different designs.
This is after talking to us about our needs, etc. She looked at our clothes to see what we needed for our shoes, dresses, my DH clothes, etc. It is really tailored made for us. My DH is 6' 2" so his side for his dress shirts start higher up than on my side. I have less dress space since I do not own many dresses but have great space for my shoes.
It's not cheap but it looks amazing!

A second vote for Closets by Design. We did ours in 2013, the day after we closed on the house. We also did the laundry room. They were terrific, designed a great closet, gave good discounts, worked around our builders' ever-changing closing schedule. And they cleaned up everything when they left. Stuff still looks brand new.

I also got quotes and drawings from California Closets. Their price was about 10-15% higher and was going to be in white instead of the more expensive wood-color.

Highly recommend this company.

My neighbors used Closets by Design recently. They seem satisfied.

Appreciate all your suggestions! I will schedule a consult with Closets by design. Has anyone got their closet done by a handyman? Will it work out to be much cheaper compared to CBD?

It could be. Basic organizers do not require much skill. However, skill climbs up quickly when you start adding things like holes for adjustable shelving, certain router cuts, and cabinet drawers. The wood is reasonably inexpensive as compared to the man hours. If you don't want drawers then it becomes much easier to do. You just need a handyman with references for quality shelving work.

Unfortunately, you just missed a big Elfa sale at the Container Store. All their closet systems (and installation) were 30% off.

Having dealt with closet built-ins a lot here, make sure you get multiple quotes from different companies/people. This stuff is not cheap! It's more work, but may be worth it in the end.

So if you get a quote from Closets by Design, also get one from Carolina Closets Plus, Closet Factory, Closet Creations, etc.

We also dealt with Closets by Design, and their price was not always the lowest!
