As new Florida residents, we are surprised and growing frustrated by the powerful and endless wind that we have been experiencing for the past couple of weeks. Is this the “normal” pattern this time of year?

Nothing compared to the Santa Ana’s in SoCal, but yes it’s normal; several windy days, followed by several calmer days as the fronts blow across. It seems to me it’s been a little less windy than average this year.

I've been here about 9 years now and this is the most roller-coaster like winter weather that I can remember. Unlike wpc, I think this has been a windier year than normal. I'm ready for it to calm down so I can enjoy some time out on the water!

Normal. Back when we had real winters in the 1980's we had much more wind. Once summer gets here it will be dead for months and dry.

Don't believe it. It's a bit unusual. There has always been wind, but it's gusty, not simply windy.

Again, you're not imagining, it's FAR more gusty. Anyone suggesting that it's not unusual, hasn't lived here in the region long enough and doesn't know what they are talking about.

PS, I'm a boater, and any boater/fisherman can tell you the same thing.

One of the more distinct aspects of FL weather compared to other places is how precise the clouds are. I have literally watched rain falling on my neighbor's house across the street and none on mine.

But, here's some help for you.

Thanks for the feedback, y’all. Today was quite nice before the clouds rolled in. Looking forward to a little pool time tomorrow....

I have lived in Florida off and on for 44 years. I've played outdoor sports that are impacted by the wind the entire time, so I notice the wind a lot.

I think this Winter is the windiest I've ever seen. October used to be very windy, then the winds would die down. This year, the Fall winds continued right into the Winter months.

Is this the new normal? I don't know, but this Winter has been much different than past Winters.

Boaters will notice it too since we've had so many days of small craft advisories.

I just pulled up the weather log from our weather station database.

Yes we have had longer periods of wind with higher peak winds/gusts since September 2019.

We've only been here for just under 3 years so that is all the information I can provide; so just a small sampling compared to the old-timers around here.

Because we do a whole lot of offshore fishing, we watch the wind forecasts very carefully –– Charlotte Harbor, Boca Grande Pass and anything out to 50 MOS from Bonita Springs to Tampa. Haven't had nearly as many good windows for going out as is evidenced by much lower fuel expenses and of course... less grouper in the freezer. :-)

Hope this helps you.

Been out on the boat the last 4 days. Not bad for late February. Last month, not so nice.
