I take it digital picture frames are usually right around 7 to 12 inches, at a price of around $200? No thank you! I'll take a pass on purchasing a digital picture frame if they're that small and going for a price that steep.

A very quick (but not so thorough) check shows that you can get a 20 inch LCD monitor for around $155, maybe less. Why not just buy the bigger LCD monitor, mount it to your wall like a van Gogh replica, and run a slide show of your pictures through monitor #1 as you surf the Internet with monitor #2?

I was real excited when I saw the digital picture frame for the first time. And then I found out you could run 3 monitors off of the same computer. It was then that my excitement died and died fast.

I have a question for everyone: What's the point of shelling out money for an expensive, little digital picture frame when you can show your pictures to friends and family using a larger LCD monitor? When it comes to digital picture frames I'm curious as to what the hype is all about. I don't get it, do you?

Why limit yourself? Connect your computer to your big screen tv...I agree that the price of those little frames is outrageous..

Not only are they expensive to buy, but expensive just to have plugged in. Found out just the other day they take up half of the energy as an energy star rated full size frig. I never did understand the hype over them, but no thank you!

My original question:

"I have a question for everyone: What's the point of shelling out money for an expensive, little digital picture frame when you can show your pictures to friends and family using a larger LCD monitor? When it comes to digital picture frames I'm curious as to what the hype is all about. I don't get it, do you?"

One answer a friend gave me: the digital picture frame might be good for a desk. It would be hard to fit a 20 inch LCD monitor on an office desk.

Note that a lot of these digital picture frames are coming over from China with a virus intact:
