I'm going to be arriving somewhere near 50th and Baltimore and staying for a few hours and probably leaving around midnight...

I know it's a bad area.. but how bad and what precautions should be taken? Will my car be okay?

That area is not the best but there are worse in the city. There's no guarantee's in any neighborhood but if you lock your car, use the Club, park underneath a street light and just use common sense you should be fine. Makr sure all valuables are out of site. Just be aware of your surroundings and when you leave, ask someone to maybe walk you to your car. Be safe.

the are isn't bad at all. the old firehouse was converted to a brewpub (Dock St brewpub and pizza) which has helped bring a lot of vitality to that part of baltimore ave. follow lititzman's advice, no valuables in sight.

That area is slowly growing for the better. There's a community with a vibrant voice and a lot of local support.

For a brief visit, I would only take the normal precautions that a lady would take in an urban setting, which were already well-covered in this thread.

Depending on one's personal definition or comfort zone, 50th and Baltimore could be considered the dividing line between University City and some of the more challenged neighborhoods in the rest of West Philly.

My goal is to move back to West Philly in 2 years and want no part of the 50th and Baltimore area. That's always been a high crime area in my opinion.

Default Very much incorrect

I was trying to think of a bar when I though of Dock Street on 50th St. I googled 50th and Baltimore and then I saw this post. It's absolutely ridiculous! 50th and Baltimore is by no means a terrifying corner, as a matter of fact, it's one of the most improved in West Philly. With Elena's Soul Cafe and the Gold Standard Cafe within two blocks, and Cedar Park having been so improved, with new trees, new turf, and new playground equipment, the claim that the corner is terrifying is almost laughable. The only exucse is that the post is outdated.
