desperate need of help! moving (Orlando, Ocala: renting, HOA, insurance)

my family is considering moving into florida. we are open to all areas. we are from michigan, firm middle class, and are looking for a low crime rate area with less elderly population to raise a family. our income rate per year is about $100,000. any suggestions or information on areas would be greatly appreciated. thank you

If you can maintain that income in Ocala, you can do great. Lord knows you're not gonna find a new job here offering that level of pay. Read through some of the posts here to get a feel for the area. I have found that it is quite the culture shock. You might want to consider renting for a year to really get a handle on how things are. Location is everything. You'll want to consider not only demographics, but also electric, water, and cable/internet providers. You will also need to get a feel for zoning, future development, HOA and/or deed restrictions. We decided to buy here, but only after being VERY familiar with the area. I walked into my realtor's office with a definite list of do's and don't even bother.

We are very young retirees, with children grown and gone. We love the area, especially being close enough to beaches, Orlando, etc., without having to deal with the higher insurance costs. Ocala is centrally located to dang near everything.
