I'm looking to move to S.C. in the next couple of years. I've been to Myrtle Beach on vacation but am so confused about the area I should be looking in. I've been to a bunch of different threads as a lurker, not a poster...lol...and keep hearing Pawley's Island and Murrell's Inlet as far as what I'm looking for. A little info:
I'll be 48 or 49 when I move. Single half black and half white woman who likes a good restaurant, live bands, yoga, exercise, access to good grocery stores, farmer's markets. Not into the club/bar scene and I want to live somewhere with a "neighborhood" feel, someplace safe, maybe some bike trails. Not more than 30 minutes from the beach.
The company I work for here in NY will allow me to keep my position and work from home so employment isn't an issue.
If there are other towns I should be considering, I'm all ears. Hopefully I've given enough information. I realize that there are a lot of similar threads, but I thought I'd pose the question as to my own situation.
PI and MI would both fit the bill as far as your described activities and desires. It would depend on your budget whether you could find something that fits within it as both of these areas are generally a little more expensive than other areas of MB.
Thank you very much. I'm currently looking at apartment complexes, 2bd/2bth, and I'm finding what look to be really nice rents in my price range (max of $1000). Can you suggest any of those other areas of MB that are similar to what I'm looking for but more inexpensive? If I don't have to spend $1000/mo, I'd be happy. But I definitely want a nice apartment.
If you find something you like....let us (or me) know. Some areas might look nice, but there is some major construction going on in the near future. You don't want that kind of mess in your back/front yard.
Unfortunately, I'm not that familiar with the rental market in MI and PI so it's hard for me to suggest places. If you are interested in the area a little north of Surfside, Palmetto Pointe http://www.apartments.com/palmetto-p...FUUvgQode7gAPw might be something worth considering. We had a friend look there and said it was nice for the price.
You can also find condos at Island Green which is in MI but you have to travel Rt707 which is being widened at this time.
I live in the Sweetwater condo's and a two bedroom goes for around for around $750. a month according to my neighbors. Murrells Inlet's name to fame is the salt marsh and Garden City beach is maybe seven minutes away. If you go on the Murrells Inlet page on face book it will really give you a good idea what the town is all about.

I'm glad someone here on City-Data lives there. I've seen Sweetwater rentals & resales online. The place looks amazing, but one thing always bothered me.....it was so cheap. I figured it was too good to be true. I keep seeing resale numbers around 74K - 99K for a 3 bedroom condo. That's really cheap for this area where I live (Murrells Inlet). What's the catch?? (if there is any)
