We are currently planning on moving next summer (‘24) and have a daughter that will be entering 10th grade. She plays basketball and soccer and is a studious kid. We are moving from the Northern Virginia, specifically Western Prince Willam county and have been considering Wilmington and Myrtle Beach area. I’ve read as many niche/great school reviews with a lot of inconsistencies on the reviews. Although the difference isn’t much; From academics, athletics and even diversity numbers it seems to be different with all these sources.
Neighborhoods aren’t necessarily as important as the high school experience but would like some insight from locals, directly, to get a feel for the schools and communities surrounding them. The 4 schools in the area I’ve been researching are; Carolina Forest, North Myrtle Beach, Myrtle Beach and St James.
Out of the 4 schools you mentioned, St. James and North Myrtle Beach are the best. Carolina Forest is also good, but the school is HUGE, like 3000+ kids. Myrtle Beach is decent. Having moved here from the north, it was different to me to see how big high school sports are here. St. James and Carolina Forest are in the 5A class (the biggest schools), and NMB and MB are in 4A.
