I have a family of 4, two small children and a husband. I want to rent/buy a small home. I would really love a small garden. My husband wants to live by water (a pond/lake, etc. Says it does have to be big body of water). I am not familiar with the cost of living in SC. That would be helpful too.

I suggest that your husband scope out jobs in his field first. Yes, the cost of living is low relative to many other places. However, wages are correspondingly low.

Locate the job first, and everything else will follow. There are many waterfront properties or developments with water features. However, you income is SC will determine whether you can afford them .

The winning combination, IMHO, is remote work. Get a northeast wage, and take advantage of the low cost of living here.

My list of legit, full-time remote jobs (most are tech-centric)

Unless youre only interested in living in or around Myrtle Beach ... I suggest that you post on the South Carolina board to get feedback statewide.
