For years my girlfriend and I have talked about relocating to Myrtle Beach, and just gave notice that we would be vacating our rental home out here on the West Coast at end of this month. We now need to quickly find a place in MB. We're looking to lease for a year, and then purchase.

We have two small dogs, and would prefer a single family detached home with a yard. However, we would settle with a quiet - well built luxury grade condo or even an apartment at this point, as long as it has a nice surrounding area to get out and walk my dogs frequently. The prefered areas are Grande Dunes, Barefoot, or Carolina Forest. Also, we need no more than 1,800sf, because we don't want to spend hundreds of thousands furnishing something we don't own, and since those furnishings probably won't be fitting for when we buy anyways.

Our issue in finding a place is that many properties do not allow pets, and those that do, require the weirdest criteria to move in. Neither of us obviously have employment in the area yet, and even though I conservatively earn about $12,500 a month from passive investments (dividends and interest),property managers will only accept a paystub. WTF? I've always been self-employed and qualify for luxury units in Manhattan and Beverly Hills but somehow not a $1,400 rental in MB?

Also, I've flown in recently to look at properties, and without fail, properties owned and managed by private individuals were either absolutely filthy, full of old appliances, or nearing forclosure (I did my own due diligence, lol).

Any advice is appreciated. Oh, and I should add that we both have great credit, however, mine is limited because my only open lines are an AMEX with no pre-set spending limit, and a $3,000 limit Visa with no balance that I only keep to use where AMEX isn't accepted.

Try using VRBO or Homeaway to find your rental. Many will show on those sites whether they will accept dogs. The first is Vacation Rental by Owner but sometimes it says they will do yearly.
The same on the second site actually.
This area is very pet friendly and I'm sure you will find what you want.
If those do not work try looking into Bermuda Bay which has beautiful homes within' a cart ride to the ocean or indoor pool. They have rentals there, and many do accept dogs.
Best of luck to you.
