Hi everyone! I relocated here about a year ago with my hubby who retired at 52. I am 52. I love everything about the area and there is only one problem. I have not been able to find work. I was in the social service field and worked for an Aging office. I have extensive experience that covers work that is done here by RNs and Social Workers and therein lies the crux of the problem. I have good referrals. I began recently looking for worker in other industries with little success. I have a good resume but have not been able to get to the interview phase. I am beginning to wonder if age as well as type nof work experience is a problem. Please any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I went through this when we relocated to the Phoenix area temporarily a couple of years ago. I am an RN but when we were in Phoenix the hospitals were all on hiring freezes and there seemed to be a glut of nurses there from "cold" states looking for work, which also complicated things. I applied at everywhere from Walgreens to Fry's (a grocery store chain) to the Hometown Buffet, just to find something, anything. I didn't get one call. I think in retrospect that the stores and restaurants were afraid to hire me because I was overqualified and they figured that I would quit as soon as something better came along. Maybe that's what the problem is with you not getting any calls if you are applying for jobs in other industries. As a healthcare worker, I can attest to the fact that companies are condensing more and more and dumping more and more new responsibilities onto nurses in order to cut other ancillary workers, maybe that's the problem too.

Have you tried Indeed.com? They have a lot of jobs on that site that don't seem to be on other job sites. I used Indeed.com when I got the job that I have now, as well as my previous job.

Good luck, I feel for you. It's tough out there right now.

Thanks canudigit. I have mostly been concentrating on SC employ. site, Monster, and CarrerBuilders but I will take your suggestion and give it a try. I really appreciate your taking the time to advise me. Thanks again.
