Hello, Minnesotans!

I will be visiting the Twin Cities next month from August 29 until Sept. 3 (Labor Day). What are the points of interest I should check out during my visit?

I do have my own list based on my research. I am sure there are more out that I do not know about. I would appreciate new suggestions to be added to my list and complaints or comments you may have about any of my choices on the list below.

Points of Interest in the Twin Cities

Beautiful suburb of Stillwater
Downtown Minneapolis & St. Paul

Historic, European-Style St. Paul (State Capitol Building, Cathedral of St. Paul, and neighborhoods of Highland Park, Macalaster-Groveland, & Summit Ave.)

Lake Calhoun
Mall of America in Bloomington
Minnehaha Creek/Falls
Sculpture Garden
Visiting Sports Shop at Target Field & Metrodome
University of Minnesota Campus
Walk on Stone Arch Bridge for views of St. Anthony Falls/Mississippi River

You will be her during the state fair. It's the second largest state fair in the country. It's worth eating your way around the fairgrounds for a day and trying everything "on a stick".

ah yes, the MN State Fair, the largest freak show on earth...

a MUST VISIT imho:

1) Mill City Museum (and dont forget to watch the move about Mpls in the end)
2) Foshay Tower - it has a cool observation deck and a small 1930s museum.
3) Uptown (especially some of the great roof top patios like Stella's at night).
4) Dinkytown (next to U of M campus).
5) Minnesota History Center in St. Paul.

Restaurants I'd highly recommend:

Sea Change - Guthrie Theater / downtown Mpls
Pizza Lola - South Minneapolis
Travail - Robbinsdale
Tilia - Linden Hills / Mpls
Moscow on the Hill - St.Paul
Cafe Latte - Grand Ave / St. Paul
PazzaLuna - St. Paul
Kramarczuk (Sunday brunch wohoo!!!) @ St. Anthony Maine / Mpls
Loring Pasta Bar - Dinkytown / Mpls
Chino Latino - Uptown / Mpls
5-8 Club (Juicy Lucy, anyone?) - Mpls
Gasthof Zur Gemutlichkeit - Mpls

well, but to be fair (no pun intended), there is also nothing that says I HAVE to love Minnesota State Fair.

its the most disturbing gathering of morbidly obese midwesterners in one spot, where they eat deep fried stuff dipped in lard and call it a great time . yuck. if I were to ever go there again, may be only just for lulz .

Personally I always preferred Lake of the Isles to Lake Calhoun. Admittedly you get great views of downtown walking around LC but LOTI gives you more fun stuff to look at on and near the lake.

I would also add the Minneapolis Institute of Arts and/or the Minnesota Arboretum

For eating out I would add WA Frost on Cathedral Hill, Punch pizza in Highland and Downtowner Woodfire Grill on W 7th St.

At first, it sounds like you are stereotyping about MN State Fair but I have never been there. I will see for myself because I plan to go. LOL

Perfect! I am glad that MN State Fair is happening during my visit. With my being born and bred deep south in Louisiana, I love fried food and anything on sticks!

What fun stuff at Lake of the Isles are there to look at? What about Lake Harriet? I know MN has many lakes so I only can pick one or two.

Are there any scenic prairies near the Twin Cities? I never see one before unless you count boring, flat prairies of Illinois that are not scenic.
