What kind of options are there for getting from BWI to the Grosvenor Metro Station area? By train, bus, whatever, any advice by locals would be appreciated.

You can take the MARC Train. You would have to take Metro to Union Station and take one of the Express trains (recommended) or the Amtrak (more expensive). I think they have a bus to Union from Greenbelt as well

Also, I believe there is a free shuttle bus from the airport BWI to the BWI train station. Then, just like the previous poster said you can catch the MARC train into Union station then the Metro from there to your final destination.

WMATA runs the B30 bus from BWI Airport to the Greenbelt Metro Station. The schedule can be found at this link: http://wmata.com/bus/timetables/md/b30.pdf . From Greenbelt you can take metro (transferring at Fort Totten or Gallery Pl-Chinatown) to Grosvenor.

So there is no way to get there directly without going through DC? That's kind of what I was hoping to avoid. Thanks for your help.

When the purple line is completed then it will be easy to avoid DC.

Your trip is essentially going from a Baltimore suburb to a DC suburb, and covers a fair distance on a less common route. The strength of transit around here is going from suburb to city and back, not necessarily between suburban areas.

If you're on a time crunch, you could consider a taxi or airport shuttle service.

You're welcome! It's not well advertised, which I think is a mistake on WMATA's part.

Either way, alot yourself plenty of time. On the MARC our train broke down (some glitch just before e got to BWI and this girl was in tears! She may have made it though, but the bus, well goes 295 (ifI am not mistaken) and considering there isn't any huge accident, well you know... I prefer to just be dropped off by friends, public transportation is too risky for time crunches!
