I got pulled over yesterday for expired registration (by 6 days, absolutely forgot).

Is there somewhere online I can look up the cost of the ticket? The cop said if I went to court they might lower it, but if the fine is not that great, I'll just pay it so I don't have to deal with court.

It should be right on the ticket, if you want to plead guilty by mail and send in the fine.

It's not, it lists the violation (401/1a), but not the amount of the fine.

It looks like in Nassau, the fine for this is $205.

Looks like I'll be taking my butt over to court.

Yeah, Nassau and Suffolk will usually let you plea down, especially a paperwork violation like that.

Don't get a ticket in NYC...their judges are part of the police dept and you are dead if you get a ticket..no pleading down, no breaks, rubber stamps.

Some good ammunition is to get the reg renewed too, and have the proof with you when you go to court, sometimes it may get you off the hook depending on what kind of mood the judge is in.

Oh, without question get the reg renewed, and FAST so you can show the judge that you rectified the situation quickly. Do not go to the court date with the reg still expired!!

It was an honest mistake (6 days overdue), I registered it online when I got home from being pulled over. For some reason I did get the renewal notice like I usually do. Have the confirmation printed out and should have the new reg by the court date. So it's worth it to go?

Even if you don't get away totally free, it definitely helps to show up and appear to be a responsible person. At worst, you should save a few bucks.
Like I said, sometimes they will dismiss the charges if you've taken care of the violation.
