Huntington schools Superintendent Christian Bowen has resigned, a month shy of finishing his first academic year as the district’s top administrator.
The Huntington school board accepted Bowen’s resignation in a special meeting Wednesday. Bowen’s contract was to last through September 2026 with a base salary of $240,000 for the first year.
Superintendents have very strong due process protections built into their multi-year (and quite lucrative) contracts so an ‘abrupt resignation’ after just one year speaks volumes.
No. In the absence of criminal charges and Newsday’s report that the district itself hired an investigator I wouldn’t think that. Perhaps they’ll be some future litigation that shines a light on the “issue”.
Bowen's resignation was accepted by the Huntington Board of Education Wednesday morning, and Dr. Alan Grovveman was named interim superintendent, effective Thursday, Huntington Now reported. The school board hired an attorney in April to investigate "issues," Huntington Now reported.
Superintendents typically don't have direct contact with any students and he really wasn't there long enough to mastermind any financial shenanigans. Maybe an inappropriate workplace relationship? Harassment? A skeleton in the closet from a previous job?
Either he has something in his past, like that female teacher who had a relationship with a student that the district that hired her next didn't background check her on, OR he's not who he says he is and doesn't have the degrees/background he said he did. Googled his name and it's like he didn't exist before this job.

He's hopskotched around quite a bit the last 12 years (not that unusual for LI admins), plenty of Google hits if you use name and district, holds the requisite certifications, nothing eye-raising:
Bowen came to Huntington from the Valley Stream Central High School District, where he worked as its assistant superintendent for curriculum and instruction, and director of instructional services, according to a Huntington district announcement of his appointment last July.
A former math teacher and data specialist at a Brooklyn school, Bowen moved into administrative roles in the Rocky Point district as its coordinator of mathematics and instructional data, and later in the Plainview-Old Bethpage district as its mathematics chairperson.

Maybe. Like that other chick recently that conveniently left out her incident with a student on her resume.
