Can anyone tell me which internet providers are available in the Kansas City area, besides Comcast?

Road Runner (Time Warner). There is also AT&T U-Verse and SureWest but like brewcrew1000 said, it depends where you live

Everywhere I've lived (Plaza, Waldo, Lee's Summit) have been Time Warner. When we bought our house, the newcomer's packet from the Chamber of Commerce said that it was Comcast, but that was outdated, apparently.

We live in far south rural Olathe and our only option is CenturyLink, which used to be Embarq. It's DSL. We don't have cable down here yet. If I were you, I'd steer clear of DSL. It's pretty slow, even with a recent speed "upgrade".

We have AT&T DSL in the city and it's very fast. A recent speed test showed us downloading at more than 5. Upload times are not as good, so if you are a gamer, I'd steer clear of DSL, but otherwise we've been very pleased thus far. We were very reticent given all the horrible things we've heard about DSL, but for $19.95/month for 12 months (or $45 on Time Warner) we had to at least try. We're really glad we did.

I believe Comcast serves Independence. Aragx6, I'm paying $19.95 for Time Warner - not the super super fast but the medium speed which is plenty for me. I also have cable, so maybe there's a bundling discount.

^^Yeah that was our issue. We decided to dump cable at the new apartment, so finding a good deal without the bundle was our biggest concern.

We don't do cable TV, but Time Warner did bundle our internet and our VOIP "land" line.
