Insurance is tough, because prices are constantly changing (unfortunately upward) each yr, so the best priced company today might not be the best priced in a year from now. We use Allstate, but we also have our cars and umbrella policy with them, so "I think" we get a better rate. I also use Insuramerica for my rental properties. A lot of companies will give you a better deal if you package all of your insurance needs with them. If you're thinking about changing insurance companies and your insurance policy is about to expire, you might want to do it quickly, because all companies will stop writing policies if a major storm is coming. Also make sure that your replacement cost number is close to accurate - we had to increase the replacement cost value, because with the rise in building costs, it would have been impossible to rebuild our home.
Also, some companies are giving discounts if you have storm shutters, hip roofs instead of gables and a newer home built under the new code. |

Hi Kort,
Amica: Excellent insurance, can be pricey, but very good reputable company - call them directly, no broker needed USAA: very good, but you have to be a USAA member Liberty Mutual: Very good...might be writing Florida policies again, not sure Tower Hill: Good insurer, based out of FL, good rates...could be a winner for you Florida Family: Good insurer, if you can't get the others above to write a policy, give Florida Family a try I would not even call State Farm or Allstate......not only due to their lousy, distastful business practices, but they have had a bad rating for payouts long beofre Katrina...don't even bother with them. Kort, I'm going to PM you a broker's name. |

May I ask what price you got? I currently live in South Florida and pay over $5,000 a year and am moving to St Johns county in hopes for lower insurance premiums. Am I living a dream??

But I think you need to keep in mind a couple things.
How close to the ocean are you ? How much is the house worth ? A 4k sq ft house within a couple blocks of the ocean is going to cost more than a 2k house 15 miles form the ocean. Kort, ouch I wish I had some recommendations for you but we have USAA and they are only writing for active military in FL now. |

What's your replacement cost that they're basing your quote on? |
