I have the chance to relocate from Charlotte, NC to Greenville, SC. I lived there as a child and know it's improved in culture & beauty, especially downtown. My only fear is that there will a minimal culture for a single white woman. Seems like everyone is married. Also, I've heard that the conservatism is a little much....thoughts?

Single father, mixed kids, not religious. I don't claim to be extreme liberal or ultra conservative. I love it here.

I just responded to you on TWW boards pixigirl13. You'll probably get good answers from a different perspective here too though.

Anyplace is what you make of it for yourself. That said, being a male in a 24-year relationship, I unfortunately can't address what the specific concerns of a single (assuming much younger) woman might be.

Well, the best news I can give for you is that its easier uf you're seeking a straight relationship...

To be honest though, dating is much better in Charlotte than the entire upstate area. Possibly even better than the Atlanta area. Once you move to Greenville you still can have luck, but it may be difficult considering the online experience has been a little slower to take off there, and as you said there are more married people and even more older people, but also a lot of previously married people. You can certainly find someone in Greenville, but depending on your preferences, it may take a while or be difficult. I myself never dated anyone from the upstate when I was here, hooked up yes, but date no.

It does look like you're off to a start if redcliffe is offering to help you out.

A co-worker of mine got divorced recently and went back into he dating scene with mostly the online route and noted that there were very few prospects of his type - non-crazy religious, attractive and that more than one of the women he found actually knew and were friends with other dates he had. So I'm sure there is someone around here that would match you, problem is the search.

But my outside observation as a newer resident of Greenville that didn't take the dating scene into account when moving here, would not recommended it compared to other cities like Charleston or Columbia.

I'm most likely moving into the area in early January to open an office (26, by the time I move, single guy) so this sounds pretty disheartening. I can't imagine the dating scene being this bleak unless everyone working downtown is in their late 30's. I thought that a lot of the newer apartment buildings were targeting young professionals?

It's not like this is a deal breaker for me as the hours I work aren't exactly night-life friendly to begin with and my focus in the immediate future will be building the new office, but I wasn't expecting this kind of response to the dating scene. From where I'm from (Philly) the rent seems very cheap, so I was expecting a decent amount of younger people to be living around the city.

I do not think it is bleak as some make it out to be. I moved to Spartanburg from Charlotte in 1996 and it was kind of bleak due to how clique-ish Spartanburg is. I moved to Greenville in 1999 and then met the woman I would marry and things have been wonderful. When I moved here, I met more people and saw there were more opportunities for single people than there were in Spartanburg. I still see a lot of single people running around so they are out there, you just have to be willing to go look.

In my mid 20s it was always best to be in a place with a large college or university for a good "scene" - since there is a type of everyone - nerdy, artistic, etc. but here we have... Furman... Greenville Communty College (!)... so as my RA freshman year said to all of us. "The odds are good - but the goods are odd".

Opinions noted. Thankfully, others have had different experiences than you have apparently had.
