Fish meal has been my favorite fertilizer for decades. Plants love it more than anything and I don't know why. Stuff stinks to high heaven, but about the third day after application and a good watering, plants square up their shoulders, go deep green, and put out a ton of new growth. Damn near magical stuff.

Here is the blurb which went with the photo.

Congratulations to Leo from McLean, VA, on growing a 21.6 lb cabbage as part of our 3rd Grade Cabbage Program. His secret? “We used compost and fresh fish guts under the plant as fertilizer. It was the biggest thing I ever grew.” Way to grow, Leo! ~Bonnie Plants~

My personal best has been 18 pounds, harvested in September before the moose could get it and lasted until February!

Used standard MiracleGro, lots of water and the Midnight sun.

What a cool thing for a kid to do! Has anyone ever eaten an oversized fruit or vegetable? I have to wonder if they still taste the same as the smaller varieties. That would be a lot of coleslaw for a barbecue!

The cabbage was excellent! I have never weighed my zucchini - usually I harvest them as soon as they become wipe instead of waiting until the end of the summer.

I've always heard that these monster veggies and fruit taste horrible and are simply grown for competitions and bragging rights.
