I want to buy a 2nd home in AZ, but my wife LOVES Fort Meyers. I just need to show here this foum to convince her to stay away.

But boy-oh-boy... How can you guys stand all of the negativity posted by a very very (very) small group of people. Can't this (very small group) say something positive from time to time?? I think the economy is going in the tank as well but it's not all doom-and-gloom.

Great post! Take what the negative people say very lightly and consider the source Everywhere is what you make of it and just because four people, for whatever reason, desperately want to steer people away from moving to a place doesn't make that place bad...unless they are your neighbors!

I agree, MN. Too much negativity. (Maybe axes to grind?) Been here since March & love it.

Default I don't care what they say, FLA is wonderful

There are a couple of things that go into the negativity, in my opinion.

First, many of us in the "second-home-buying" stage of life spent many of our younger years struggling and juggling. Life was hard. That is history, long forgotten. Come to the forum, however, and you meet a lot of people who are struggling and juggling right now. Florida might be terrible for the struggling, but that isn't us anymore.

Second, although it is hard to believe when we are mired in a soggy economy, the current awful conditions are temporary. The Florida economy depends on cyclical businesses such as home building and real estate development and consumer discretionary businesses such as tourism and travel. Those hit the wall, and then the well blew up.

In a year or two, nobody will mention or think about the oil, the national economy will be much better, tourism and real estate will be going up.

But what is in Florida right now, was there 100 years ago, and will be there 100 years from now is sunshine, a climate that is desired by many people, some of the most fabulous beaches in the world, sea shells, seafood restaurants, beach bars, enough culture around the cities, palm trees, etc. etc. etc. Spend time, see it with your own eyes, figure out what you want, and go for it.
