On a business trip to SE Asia (Singapore) back in 1994, I had Singapore style coffee (aka “Kopi”) and the drink was served with condensed milk. Quite strong with high amounts of caffeine.
I'm a coffee drinker but not an aficionado. Usually I'm happy if it's hot, dark and has caffeine. The only cup of coffee I've ever had that I couldn't drink was from Starbucks.
And I had an old aunt still living with Depression era frugality whose coffee ran a close second. She only cleaned out the pot once a week. Every day she just added another tablespoon of fresh grounds to it. By the end of the week it was gritty and nearly syrupy.
I did have very good coffee at a bed and breakfast in Costa Rica but not good enough to order it.
At home we are happy with a prominent brand and when I want to dress it up I'll put a dash of Mexican vanilla and some sweetener in it.
NYC, a chain called Cafe Financier. They made the best dry cappuccino ever, just the right balance of foamy milk to coffee so it didn't taste like hot milk. The coffee was bold but smooth. And the people watching if you got a seat at the window counter was a bonus. Because it's never just the food or drink; it's the whole experience. I felt more relaxed watching everyone else scurry.
Years ago, at a hotel in Canada, we had coffee from a coffee maker called “moco mat” I believe it used a liquid coffee in the machine. It was fantastic.
