“How do you make it work when things like property insurance just are becoming so onerous and unpredictable?” she said. “Looking into the future, if things are going to get worse, I don’t know what we’re going to do.”

So what is your point? Is this suppose to be news? Home insurance in FL is expensive. It's always been expensive, no reason to believe with inflation and the hurricane that hit the west coast insurance would be going down. I'm guessing your next post will complain about how it's hot it the summer.

Did you actually read the article? Let me save you some time and mental energy.

This is an interesting article from Bloomberg explaining that the insurance unaffordability crisis in Florida extends to commercial policies, which have also skyrocketed in cost and is forcing people to close up shop. This is having a direct effect on ESSENTIAL businesses such as nursing homes, restaurants and other ESSENTIAL businesses in Florida.

Up until now, the narrative on the insurance unaffordability crisis in Florida has been focused mostly on home insurance and auto insurance, or non-commercial policies.

Time was one could not get a mortgage or insurance on houses built in risky areas.
FEMA changed that. The average American tax payer now subsidizes bad decisions.

Are you saying that it's a "bad decision" to live someplace high-risk like Fla?

I don't need an article to explain the obvious. If residential insurance is higher, why in the world would you expect commercial to be any different? Is commercial real estate somehow immune to storms? But I'm glad Bloomberg was able to explain that to you.

Do you think that's some kind of gotcha?? Yes. It's a bad decision to live somewhere you can't afford to live. The same way it's a bad idea for me to buy a Ferrari, it doesn't make it a bad car just because I can't afford to buy it and maintain it.

Thanks so much for your expert analysis. However, if my homeowners insurance goes up, it doesn't put ESSENTIAL businesses out of business. Commercial rates are much higher and the increases have been much higher. Which is putting people in Florida WHO RUN ESSENTIAL BUSINESSES out of business. As explained in the article.

You may think this is all just dandy, but business owners in Florida do not. Neither do the 4 million (and about to multiply) number of seniors who will be needing nursing homes in Florida.
