Our beloved dog has been diagnosed with multiple cranial nerve issues (the greatest extent not yet known...we are waiting for a full read of the MRI and spinal tap he had yesterday). These nerves most notably affect his ability to open and close his jaw and cause thick drooling (his is not that thick) because he can't close his jaw properly.
He has been prescribed prednisone and two antibiotics and we have to hand feed and water him for the next 7-10 days.

Vet indicates this condition is generally resolved but wondering if anyone has personal experience with this with their Dog-o.

I do not have experience with this, but wanted to wish your dog a quick and complete recovery. From the sound of it, you have excellent, on-top-of-it veterinary care. I'm glad.

Thank you so much!!! This was a shock for us since this dog is a super strong breed and has never had a health problem until now. This is an unusual condition (not unheard of but not common). The vets have been absolutely outstanding and barring anything else identified in the spinal fluid - we are waiting for the full report - we are administering a steroid, an anti-inflammatory and an antibiotic and will have follow up visits, probably more meds, and stay the course until this resolved. I feel he is improving. He is not drooling as much and his jaw is not as slack. plus, he's going for paper towels again .... The vets belief we are on the right path.

What was even more gratifying is that the 1st vet we took him to (not the emergency place with specialists) called us and asked how Boo was doing! She was not able to see his reports online. This is a very dog/pet friendly state.

One final note: I highly suggest getting pet insurance. Husband and I were just talking about dropping ours since the cost has doubled over the 7 yrs we've had the dog. Thank God we didn't. This has cost a fortune. They will pay 80% of all the tests. meds, x-rays, etc.

Yes, indeed! We lived there for 6 years and go back regularly to visit friends, and the dog-friendliness has been our experience, too.

Again, best wishes for Boo's complete recovery!
