I have heard (and seen) a lot of good things changing in this neighborhood. It's cleaned up considerably over the past decade, but I am still wary about living in it. What are you guys' experiences/thoughts about the area? Specifically 21st and university. I used crime mapper and though the immediate area is generally free of crime within blocks there are a lot of robberies assaults, etc. My main worries are my car or apartment being broken into when I am gone. Do you think it is a good idea for a single girl to live in this area alone? Please let me know your thoughts. Thanks.

If the whole "urban" living style is your thing, it will suit you well. The Drake neighborhoods will always have higher levels of crime then other areas. Nothing crazy but I know plenty of people who live in and around there that have seen or dealt with sketchy things -- all in the interest of location. Probably not worth it for me. But I also carry a pistol so I'm typically not worried.

It has come a long way, but I wouldn't live in that area as a single lady. There are a lot of car breakin's in the area, but if your smart and don't leave anything showing you should be okay. I like being able to walk around my neighborhood in the nighttime and feel safe- that's something I would never do in that area.
