There is a possibilty that my wife and I will be moving to Danbury. We have been living in Rochester NY for 3 years and Atlanta GA for 10 years before that. We are used to being able to live in a nice home for around $235000. Is there an outlying community to Danbury where we could find nice homes in that price range and commute up to an hour to Danbury?

We currently have 4 bedrooms and 2200sqft but only need 3 and 1600sqft.

Our only ace in the hole is that our current budget which affords a $235000 house also includes paying $8800 in property taxes since Monroe County NY is the highest in the country. This can be applied to home cost in the Danbury area.

an hour from danbury would put you in new haven county you might have good luck on that budget out that way...new milford might also be a possibility...
danbury itself i dont think it would get you much... were certinaly not the most expensive area of ffc but were still ffc lol.

try realtor.con and search for houses within a 20 mile radius of danbury to get an idea of whats available in the direct area in your range then kind of expand from there. (of cours realtor.com doesnt have all the area mls listed but it should give you a better idea.)

That's a tough price range. You might be able to find a 2 bedroom 1.5 bath townhouse built in the 1980s in Danbury or a modest 3 bedroom single family home in Southern New Milford. Property taxes would run about $3750 a year in New Milford for such property or $2750 a year for the condo. Good luck.

Can anyone tell me pros & cons of Sandy Hook? There are a couple of interesting listings there and Mapquest lists it as a 22 min comute to Danbury.

Sandy Hook is a section of Newtown. Newtown, by the way, is typically more expensive than Danbury. So, if you've found some listings for Sandy Hook, there are probably some issues with the property. As for 22 minutes to get to Danbury, that would be the maximum. You could probably do it in less time depending on where in Danbury you're going.

That home is near Lake Zoar. Most of the homes in that area are former cottages & cabins from the 1930s that eventually got converted into year round homes. Some of the houses have been updated & expanded while others remain true to their original character. There is a little bit of highway noise there. The roads going in to the area are pretty narrow, because they weren't intended for cars to be as important as they are today. Good luck

looks like a very nice house, jdhall said the rest, tends to be a messy area in terms fo snow in the winter as the plows often have a hard time on the narrower roads.

definatly worth a look, newtown in general is beautiful, definatly an easy communte to danbury (with multiple routes to follow) has plenty of intown ammenities (grocery, cafe's ect), and generally very retty especially around the lake not sure what the taxes are like, but its an area i find quite nice. and tpically "quiet"

Taxes for the home on Laurel Trail are being shown as $3422 a year, which includes schools. Newtown does have a good amount of in town amenities including a cute in town movie theater (Edmund Town Hall). One thing to note is when I leave Danbury to go toward Newtown is the heavy traffic volume on I-84 since it is only 2 lanes in each direction past exit 8 in Danbury.
